Valorising-Investing

Valorising-Investing’ will engage with businesses, the public sector and communities to value and invest in nature-based solutions. The costs and benefits of nature-based solutions will become better defined and a comparison made to more conventional approaches. This information will be more accessible to decision makers, helping them to see nature-based solutions as comprehensive solutions.

Partners:

Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, The University of Sheffield, Camara Municipal de Lisboa, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, Gobierno Regional Metropolitano de Santiago, Municipalidad de General San Martin, Comune di Torino, Periferia Territorios Vivos SAC, Ministerium für Umwelt Landwirtschaft Natur- und Verbraucherschutz des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen

Objectives:

  1. Appraise: Define valuation approaches based on state of the art combined with cities' experiences with evaluating nature-based solutions; establish baselines for valuations (methodologies for economic analyses and values assessments).

  2. Value: Undertake cost-benefit analyses (of urban ecosystem restoration and nature-based solutions) and evaluate social return on investment in selected cases derived from Life-Lab interventions.

  3. Valorise: Make business cases, secure investment and valorise nature-based solutions with communities and public and private sectors.

A holistic and transparent assessment of monetary and non-monetary values will be carried out. This will account for all the benefits provided in the long-term, including environmental and social. It will therefore improve how we understand Social Return on Investment.

Partners will work with the Life-Lab cities and contribute to development of business cases and evaluation plans for costs and benefits of the demonstration projects. It will do so by engaging with businesses, the public sector and communities to build understanding of the value of nature-based solutions to invest in as a cost-effective approach to building resilience.
